About Abid

By day, Abid is a veteran Program Manager at Microsoft with more than 22 years of experience helping shape technologies across Windows, Mobile, and Xbox. By choice, however, he’d often rather be in a forest, on a bike, in a canoe, or tending a garden.

A self-confessed lover of the outdoors, Abid enjoys hiking, mountain biking, bushcraft, gardening and canoeing. Unusually, his enthusiasm increases in direct proportion to the amount of rain falling from the sky. While most people check the weather to avoid getting wet, Abid sometimes checks it to make sure he will. A Pluviophile perhaps?

His faith underpins his commitment to living in harmony with nature and caring for the environment. He has a deep interest in holistic health, mindfulness, nutritious food, and sustainable living, along with the challenge of making these principles work within the demands of modern life.

Abid is passionate about teaching and sharing these skills with others. For more than two decades, he has invested in mentoring and developing young people through Scouting, faith-based programmes, traditional archery, yoga, bushcraft, permaculture, gardening, mountain biking, and canoeing. He has taught yoga for over 10 years, been a Scout Leader for 11+ years, and continues to run bushcraft workshops that help both children and adults build confidence, resilience, and a stronger connection to the natural world.

When he’s not working or teaching, you’ll most likely find him outdoors with his two amazing daughters, aged 14 and 7, exploring woodland trails, paddling rivers, growing food, or embracing whatever adventure nature has planned for the day. Those moments, sharing the outdoors with the next generation, are among the experiences he values most.
